PURPOSE: To consider reappointing Jo Roberson as Orange County Tax Collector for afour-
yearterm effective July 1, 2009.
BACKGROUND: Chapter 105-349 of the North Carolina General Statutes requires the Board of
County Commissioners appoint a tax collector "for a term to be determined by the governing
board". Jo Roberson was appointed as Orange County Tax Collector in January 2000 to
complete the unexpired term of Ginger Rolfe ending June 30, 2001. Ms. Roberson was
subsequently reappointed for terms July 1, 2001 -June 30, 2003 and July 1, 2003 -June 30,
2005. Ms. Roberson was reappointed to a four-year term beginning on July 1, 2005.
It is proposed that Ms. Roberson be reappointed for afour-year term from July 1, 2009 through
June 30, 2013.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: There is no financial impact associated with consideration of the
reappointment.
RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends the Board reappoint Jo Roberson as
Orange County Tax Colletor for a four-year term from July 1, 2009 through June 30, 2013.
