HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - 19741223~~~ THE MINUTES OF THE ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS December 23, 1974 The Orange county Board of Commissioners met in adjourned session on Monday, December 23, 1974, at 8:00 P.M. in the Commissioners Room of the Courthouse•in Hillsborough, N. C. - Members Present: Flora Garrett, Chairman, Commissioners, Norman Guataveson, Jan Pinney, and Richard E. Whitted. Members Absent: Conmussioner Norman Walker. Bill Laws, Tax Supervisor, and Archie Kelly, Tax Appraiser, were also present. The following persons were named to the county. Task Force on community Development: Margorie Land Marion Woods (Mrs. James Woods) Marilyn Riddle (Mrs. James Riddle Kathan xaskins (Mrs. William xaskins) Viola Tinnen c. U. Moore _ Bobby Cobb Tom Sacon Grey Clark Earl Thomas McKee The first meeting of this Task Force was set for Monday, December 3Dth in the Commissioners Room of the Courthouse in Hillsborough. The Board of commissioners then reached the following decisions concerning property tax values: 1. Affirmed the Tax Supervisor's decision to disapprove application of D. St. Pierre DuBose for present use assessments vn Eno and Chapel Hill Township tracts. 2. Accepted recommendation of State Property Tax Commission that property on Merritt Mill Road be assessed at $180 per front foot and that property on Brewer Lane be assessed at $160 per front foot. 3. Property of H. A. Whitmore in Bingham Township, Tax Map 9, Lot 23A, be appraised at 55,000. 4. Property of Union Grove Methpdist Church in Chapel Hill Township, shown on Tax Map 12, Lot 14, be appraised at $25D per acre. 5. Property of George W. Kane Company in Chapel xill Township, shown on Tax Map 116 as Lot 7, be appraised at $2,596,100 (Commissioner Norman Gustaveson voted against this reduction). 6. That the property of R. G. xancock known as Berkshire Manor Appartments, and shown on Chapel Hill Township Tax Map 114 as parcle 10 be appraised at $1,114700. 7. That no change be made in the assessed value ($3,050,SOD) of the property of Plaza Associates shown on Chapel Hi11 Township Tax Map 80 as Lot 4 in Black F and Lot 19 in Block G. 8. That the assessment on the property of Edward P. Pizer known as Eastowne and shown on Chapel Hill Township Tax Map 26 as Lto 17B be affirmed. 9. That the property of Kenneth s. Garrison shown on Hillsborough Township Tax Map 6A as parcle 6, Block F be assessed at $3,4D0. 10. That the property of Simmon F. Terrell shown on Chapel Hill Township, Tax Map 54B as parcle 1, Block D, be appraised at 552,400. 11. That no change be made in the appraisal of the property of Jeremy Cyrile Romanovsky shown on chapel Hill Township, Tax Map 77A, Block A, Lots 6, 10, 22, and 23 and on Block B of the same map - as parcle 11. 12. Mr. Ted Duda, representative of the Oaks, failed to appear and present a protest to the assessment of the property shown on Chapel Hill Township Tax Map S4A as-Lot 1 in Block B. 13. Np decision was reched concerning the assessment of the pezsonal property of Efland Knitting Company pending receipt of additional evedence relating to the value of the machinery in question from the owner and from the Tax Department. ~~~ There bel.ng no further business to come before the Board. Approved: THE MINUTES OF THE ORANGE COLtNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS December 30, 1974 The Orange County Hoard of Commissioners met in special session on Monday, December 30th, 1974 at 8:00 P.M., in the Commissioners Room in Hillsborough, N. C. Members Present: Chairman, Flora Garrett, Commissioners, Norm_Gustaveson, Jan Pinney, Norman Walker, and Richard E. Whitted. Members Absent: None. S. M. Gattis, County Administrator, was also present. This meeting was held for the purpose of joining with the newly appointed Task Force on Community Development and hearing Mark Burnham of the Region J Council of Governments discuss some of the more important aspects of the Community Development Program Act. At the conclusion of Mr. Hurnham's presentation Chairman Garrett spoke directly to the members of the Task Force and outlined the job the County Commissioners were asking this group to undertake. In ten days they were going to have to develop the "shopping list" of ideas that would ga into the Community Development Program £or rural Orange County. Similiar tasks forces were operating in carrboro and Hillsborough to develop ideas that would relate to those communities. Chairman Garrett then reviewed briefly the time table we would have to operate within. January 10, 1975: Completion of Shopping List. January 17, 1975: Cost analysis of ideas on Shopping List. January 22, 1975: Draft of priorities. January 29, 1975: Completion of local review of ideas. February 5, 1975: Delivery of pre-application to HUD in Greensboro.
