PURPOSE: To consider awarding a bid to Integrated Comr~unication Services TICS} of Raleigh,
North Carolina to furnish and install data and telephone connectivity wiring at the new Office Building.
BACKGROUND. The County's new office building, which has been under development since 2006, is
on schedule for completion by early Summer 2009. As with previous buildings, it has been more
economical to bid the wiring for data and telephone jacks directly rather than through the construction
contract.
The standards for the wiring as set and bid by the County will accommodate both conventional phone
systems and Voice~Over I P ~V41 P}.
Bid #~568~ to provide this service was advertised on the County's website and solicited firom ten
vendors. Six vendors responded with Integrated Communications Services TICS} submitting the
lowest responsive bid that was responsible at a not to exceed cost of $80,440. A bid tabulation is
afitached. This pricing is for a turnkey project, which among other things includes racks, patch panels,
CATV jacks, testing and labeling. ICS has provided this type of service previously for the County and
is recommended for award of this bid.
FINANCIAL IMPACT. Funding is available within the County Campus project budget to support the
$8D,440 necessary to install the wiring.
RECOMMENDATION~S~: The Manager recommends the Board award Sid #568 to ,Integrated
Communication Services TICS} of Raleigh, North Carolina at a not to exceed cast of $80,440 to furnish
and install data and telephone connectivity wiring at the new gftice Building; and authorize the
Purchasing Director to execute the necessary paperwork.
