HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - 19740610" ~~; .CBS MINUTES OF THE ORANG£ COUNTY BOARD OF EQUALIZATION AND REVIEW June 3, 1974 The 1974 Orange County Board of Equalization and Review convened for its sixth meeting at 2:00 E.M. on June 3, 1974 in the Commissioners Room of the Orange County Courthouse. _ Members Present: Commissioners Henry Walker, Richard Whitted, and Flora Garrett. Members Absent: Chairman C. Norman Walker, and Commissioner Melvin Whitfield. The Board heard appeals of 1974 real property tax assessments from the following individuals concerning the indicated properties: A ep~ pant Township Tax Map Block Lot Mr. Warren W. Chapel Hill 118A (19 lots & pond owned by Melas Corp. Jan. 1, 1974) Mr. & Mrs. Joseph A. Cima Chapel Hill 118A A 1,2 N,r. W. Troy Couch Chapel Hill 5 15A,15H Mr. & Mrs. Frank W. Humphus Chapel Hill 3 20A,20J Mr. Philip C. Schinhan Chapel Hill 116A A - F Ms. Lyda Eubanks Orgain Chapel Hill 52 2 The Board considered the appeals of Melas Corporation and Lyda Eubank s Orgain although neither appellant was represented at this meeting. The Berard took the follnwing action in resolving the aforementioned appeals: the assessment of W. W. Williams' parcel 126-A-5 was reduced from $37,000 to $33,800 while the assessment of his parcel 126-A-6 was reduced from $20,600 to 56,300; the assessment of Mrs Alice Wilkins property was reduced from 515,800 to 512,600; resolution of the appeals of Col. Frank S. Westling, Melas Corporation, and Mx. and Mxs. Joseph A. Cima was postponed to allow Further study of these land values; the valuation o£ W. Troy Couch's parcel 15A was reduced by the Board from $2,800 to 5600, and the .valuation of parcel 15B was reduced from $1;600 to $600; resolution of the appeal of Mr. and Mrs. Frank W. Bumphus was postponed pending further study; the Board decided to consider further the appeal of Mr. Philip C. Schinhan; resolution of the appeal of Lyda Eubanks Orgain was deferred pending furthex study. The Board determined to adjourn its 1974 session with the close of its June 13, 1974 meeting providing that any appeals heard but unresolved by that date might be finally adjudicated at a subsequent meeting. Members Present: Chairman, C. Norman Walker, Commissioners Henry S. Walker, Flora Garrett, and Richard Whitted. Members Absent: Commissioner Melvin Whitfield. Cory's property was reduced from 552,40D to 547,500; the appeals of D, C, & D. N. Stallings were heard although these appellants were unable to appear before the Board; resolution of their appeals was postponed to allow futher study; the University Land Co., Inc. property valuation was reduced by the Board from $485,200 to 5318,200; the assessment of Howard L. Stewart's property was reduced from $25,80D to 524,100; the appeal .of Harold Daye was not resolved pending further study; the valuation of the property o€ George Tate was reduced .from 518,900 to $13,700; the Eva Brewer Hrs. appeal was not resolved pending fnrther study; the appeals of T, G. Donnelly and W, B, Upchurch were not resolved to allow further consideration; the Board determined to adjust the valuation of the Gales Perry lot in accordance with its adjusted sales price; the appeals of Chapel Hill Country Club, Inc. and Rock Spring Farms, xne. were net resolved pending further consideration, The Board adjourned to reconvene at 7:00 P.M., June 13, 1974 in the Commissioners' Room of the Prange County Courthouse. + ' Na~ Walker, Chairman Minutes taken and submitted by Bill Laws, Asst. Tax Supervisor and Archie Kelly, Tax Appraiser MINUTES OF THE ORATGE COUNTY BOARD OF E4UALIZATION AND REVIEW June 13, 1974 The 1974 Orange county Board of Equalization and Review convened at 7.00 P.M., Thursday, June 13, 1974, in the Commissioners Room of the Orange County Courthouse. Members Present: Chairman C. Norman Walker, Commissioners Henry 5. Walker, Flora Garrett, and Richard Whitted. Members Absent: Commissioner Melvin Whitfield. The Board heard appeals from 1974 real property tax valuations for the indicated properties from the following persons: Appellant Township Tax Map Block Lot John H. Williams & Billie Chapel Hill 85 M 32,39 James C, Parsons Chapel Hill 8 9,9B, 9C Eva W, Warren Eno 20 10 The Board declined to alter the valuation of the John H. Williams property; resolution of the James C. Parsons appeal was deferred pending further consideration as was the appeal of Eva W. Warren. The Board resolved the following appeals heard at earlier sessions: the E. C. Leonard Playground Association (appeal heard May 16, 1974) real property tax valuation was reduced from 56,400 to $4,500; the real property valuation appealed by the Ridgewood Club of Chapel Hill., Inc. (May 16, 1974) - was reduced from $96,400 to $83,900; the tax valuation of the property owned by Clayton Hamby (appeal heard May 15, 1974) was reduced by the Board from $30,800 to 529,600; the assessment of -the property of M. H. Baker (appeal heard May 28, 1974) was reduced from 523,800 to $1B,7DD. The Board adjourned to reconvene only for the purpose of resolving those 1974 appeals already heard but not yet adjudicated.
