SUBJECT: Notice of Public Hearing on Orange County's 2009 Legislative Agenda

PURPOSE: To provide notice of the Board of County Commissioners' plans to hold a public
hearing on April 7, 2009 on potential items for inclusion in Orange County's legislative agenda
package for the 2009 North Carolina General Assembly Session.
BACKGROUND: The Board of County Commissioners is asked to schedule a public hearing
during its regular meeting on Monday, April 7, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. at the Central Orange Senior
Center at 103 Meadowlands Drive in Hillsborough, North Carolina. The purpose of the public
hearing will be to receive public comments on potential items for inclusion in Orange County's
legislative agenda package for the 2009 North Carolina General Assembly Session.
The County's Legislative Issues Work Group consisting of Commissioner Valerie Foushee,
Commissioner Barry Jacobs, and County staff is reviewing items for possible inclusion in
Orange County's legislative package. Information on the proposed items will be provided to the
BOCC and others prior to the April 7 meeting.
It should also be noted that the Clerk to the Board has scheduled a joint legislative breakfast for
the BOCC and Orange County's legislative delegation for April 20, 2009.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: Any funds necessary to provide the public notice are included in the
Clerk to the Board's budget for the current year.
RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends the Board direct the Clerk to the Board
and the County Manager to publish a notice of the Board's intent to hold a public hearing during
its regular meeting on April 7, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. at the Central Orange Senior Center at 103
Meadowlands Drive in Hillsborough, North Carolina to receive public comments on potential
items for inclusion in Orange County's legislative agenda package for the 2009 North Carolina
General Assembly Session.
