I was concerned to see so many of the recent members of the OC Planning Board turn over in December 2008 (a majority of those who've served and worked on the comprehensive plan rotated off or had to resign). Some members had suggested that I might be nominated to serve as Planning Board chair when Jay Bryan rotates off. I'd 10 Page 2 of 2 Judith Wegner like to help with the ongoing efforts to address the proposed UNC airport and other matters facing the county as a whole and Bingham Township (where I live) in particular. I'd also like to assist in the maturation of the newly appointed Planning Board (we had nearly 2/3 turn-over at the end of 2008, in part because some folks couldn't be reappointed due to length of service and in part because serveral others (including myself) had faced challenges with balancing work and family obligations due to the extraordinary time demands that resulted from recent work on the Comprehensive Plan, major developments (such as Buckhorn Village) and ongoing standard Planning Board responsibilities. I also think this will be a crucial time in helping citizens living in rural Orange to continue to engage effectively with pressing planning issues (particularly in implementing key aspects of the Comprehensive Plan). I think that the County will be well served (and needs) some greater continuity of leadership on the Planning Board particularly given the need to implement the Comprehensive Plan and address pending issues regarding the UNC Airport proposal. I unfortunately had felt obligated to resitn (rather than seek another term) when faced with that question early in 2008. Since the immediate work demands that precluded my continuing service had crested at this point, I'd like to volunteer to pick up service again (and several colleagues on the Planning Board have urged me to do so).
