PURPOSE: To proclaim September as United Way Month in Orange County.
BACKGROUND: The United Way has requested that the County and municipal governing
boards consider proclaiming September 1999 as "United Way Month" in Orange County. The
proposed joint proclamation is attached.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: None.
RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board of County
Commissioners proclaim September as United Way Month in Orange County and authorize the
Chair to sign the proclamation.

ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
Proclamation of September, 1999 as United Way Month
WHEREAS it is the mission of the Triangle United Way to "increase the organized
capacity of people to care for one another"; and
WHEREAS United Way funds health and human service programs in 27 Orange County
organizations; and
WHEREAS Orange County residents generously support the United Way Campaign to
meet the needs of their neighbors; and
WHEREAS community support of the United Way has really made the difference in the
lives of those in Orange County who really need help; and
WHEREAS it is evident that Orange County is a caring community, much like a family.
NOW, THEREFORE, the Orange County Board of Commissioners does hereby
proclaim September to be United Way month in Orange County and urge
citizens to join in and actively participate in the United Way campaign and
all of its activities to continue making a difference in the lives of Orange
County citizens.
