Commissioner Garrett~a motion received a second from Commissioner Riahard
?dh.itted. Chairman Walker called for a vote and all members of the Board
voted in the affirmative. Chairman Walker deolared the motion passed.
Chairman Walker reported that he had discussed the matter of the resent
action of President Nixon in freezing Federal Fonda for Rural Environmental
Programs with members of the local Agriculture Stabilization and Conservation
Service and the Extension Service. Discussion ensued on the matter.
Upon motion of Commissioaer Henry S. Walker, seconded by Commissioner
Richard Whitted, it wsa moved and adopted, that the Board write to Congressman
L. H. Fountain and Senators Sam Ervin and Jesse Helms requesting these men
to take whatever action that is necessary to restore the funds For the Racal
Environmental Programs.
The matter of appointments of Board members to the various oonanittees
was brought before the members. Chairman walker stated that each member had
agreed to the Following committee appointments:
Orange-Person Mental Health Authority - Commissioner Richard Whitted
will fill the unexpired term of Former Commissioner William C. Ray.
Triangle J Council of Governments - Commissioner Flora Garrett will
fill the unexpired term of former Commissioner Rarvey D. Bennett.
Joint Orange-Chatham Community Action Board - Commissioner Flora Garrett
will fill unexpired term of Commissioner Tra A. Ward who will resign Prom
this Board.
A petition for the streets in Carolina Forest Subdivision was presented.
The Clerk was instructed to forward same to the State Righway Commission.
There being no further business to some before the Board the meeting
was adjourned tv meet again on Wednesday, January l7, 1973 at 8 P.M.

January l7, 1973
The Board of County Commissioners met in the Carrboro Town Hall at
8:00 P.M. on Wednesday, January 17, 1973, in joint session with members
of the Town Governing Boards of Chapel Hill sad Carrboro.
Members Present: Chairman C. Norman Walker and Comtai.ssionera Henry 5.
Walker, Ira A. Ward, Flora Garrett and Richard Whitted.
Members Absent: None
This meeting was held to give the members of the Board an opportunity
to discuss the purchase of all yr part of the University Utility Systems.
Since this discussion concerned the soquisition of real estate the meeting
was declared to be an executive session, and no detail minutes of the
meeting were recorded.
There being no further business to come before the Board the meeting
was adjourned-to meet again on Tuesday, January 30, 1973 at 8:00 P. M.
