M. on Monday, January 15, 1973. Members Present; Chairman C. Norman Walker and Commissioners Henry $. Tnfalker, Ira A. Ward, Flora Garrett and Richard Whitted. -__ Members Absent: None Representatives of the Association for the Preservation of the Eno River Valley were present. Slides of the river, flower and animal life were presented. A discussion followed the preeentation. There being no further business to come before the Board the meeting was adjourned to meet again on Tuesday, January 16, 1973, at 7:30 P.M. C. Norman Walker, Chairman 5. M. Gatti s, Acting Clerk MIPTOTES OF THE ORANGE COUNTY BOARD 0~' COMMISSIONERS January 16, 1973 The Board of County Commissioners of Orange County met in regular session at 7;30 P. M. on Tuesday, January 16, 1973, 'in the District Courtroom of the Courthouse in Hillsborough. r"" • Members Pineaent; Chairman C. Norman Wal'der and Commi.asionera Henry S. Walker, Tra A. Ward, Flora Qarrett and Richard Whitted. .. Members Absent: None Lloyd Senter, representing the South Orange Rescue Squad, and Bynum Weaver of the Chapel Hi11 Funeral Home, were present to review and discuss with the Board the ambulance service that was currently being provided for the area. Mr. Senter reported that the South Orange Reacua Squad had fifty one members, several vehicles and items of personal property that was valued in excess of $33,000.00, and that during the past year 822 c~sea had been answered by the Squad. He stated that the Squad, with financial sasistanae from the County, hoped to build a building that would house the vehicles, provide a plane for the training of the members, serve as headquarters for the unit. Bynum Weaver of the Chapel Hi11 Funeral Home stated that his company had been rendering ambulance service for a number of years, He stated that he was of the opinion that the company was providing adequate service in the Chapel Hill area, however, without the assistaace of the South Orange Rescue Squad there were tan many cases for his company to answer. The two representatives agreed that the two agencies were not competing against each other. Tha Board advised Mr. Weaver and Mr. Senter that they felt the County must take an overall look at the matter of ambulance service before reaching any conclusion on the present matter. They were further advised that the question of duplication of aezwiae in the Chanel Hi11 area had arisen sa a matter that would have to be settled before financial assistance could be - allocated to the South Orange Rescue Squad. The Board agreed that a decision would be reached by March 1, 1973.
