Etrelyn I$urdock, Board Member of the Orange, Person, Chatham Mental Health Authority were present and presented their budget request. The agency is requesting the County to increase its allocation to them from $10,000 annually to $20,000 annually. Mr. J. T. Gobbel, Chairman of the Orange County ABC Board, and Mr. Bernice Ward, Board Member were present to hear their presentation as the ABC Board has been making a contribution to this agency. In the fiscal year just aloaing the ABC Board approved about $9,300 for alcaholtc related aerviaea of this agency. During the coming year the Mental Health Authority is requesting the ABC Board "to increase its annual allocation to $20,000.00. Mrs. Walton stated funds for her agency were derived from several sources: 1. A federal grant for staffing purposes of 75~. The balance of their staffing funds are provided by State and County appropriations. 2. A federal grant for alcoholism puraosea of 90°. The balance of funds spent ender this grant are from State and County sources. 3. Patient receipts are rapidly increasing. St is estimated that they will collect around $9,000 in Orange County during the coming year from this sours®. Dr. Silas Coley, Direotor of the Authority, discussed briefly the Authority~a work and programs. If the requested funds are available the scope of their programs will be increased. How®ver, the patient load of the center is beginning to increase, because it is beginning to receive more public acceptance. Gatti s, Acting Clerk i I4INUTES OF THE ORANGE COIINTIr i BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS June 20, 1972 The Board of Commissioners of Orange County met in regular session in I the Distriot Courtroom of the Caurthouae in Hillsborough, North Carolina an Tuesday, Sune 20, 1972. Members Present: Chairman Harvey D, Bennett, and Commissioners William i C. Ray, Henry S. Wa].kar, Ira A. Ward and C. Norman Walker. Members Absent: None Chairman Bennett called upon Mra. Richmond Bond to present the budget ~ request of the Chapel Hill Public Library fur the coming year. Mrs. Bond reported to the Board that their library now had 20,000 ~ registered readers and was circulating 250,000 volumes annually. They realize that many of their registered readers had moved away and were considering a new registration. Mrs. Bond stated their library now contained ! about 35,000 volumes. Mrs. Bond also stated the library had been given, by two citizens of Chapel Bill, a new bookmobile. The library wanted to place ~ r" this machine into operation this fall. The Library Board requested an appropriation budget of $19,500 for j the 1972-1973 fiscal year. In the current fiscal year the County provided ._ this unit with $15,D00.00. Chairman Bennett advised Mrs. $ond that the Board of Commissioners would take this request under consideration. U»on motion of Commissioner Ira A, Ward, aeaonded by Commissioner Norman Walker, 1t was moved and adopted, that Louis G, Freeland, George Jenkins and John Kline be appointed as Trustees of the New Hoae Rural Fire Proteotion District, for a two year term. I I Upon motion of Commissioner Henry S, Walker, seconded by Commissioner i William C, Rap, it was moved and adopted, that Fred Crabtree, I~fargaret Cgile ~~ and Curtis Bane ba appoi.nted as Trustees of the Eno Rural Fire Protection District, for a two year term. __ li I Upon motion of Com*nissi.oner William C, Rap, seconded by Commissioner Ira A, Ward, it was moved and adopted, that D. T, Clayton, J, k'rank Ray and George 2, Johnson, be appointed as Trustees of the Orange Rural Fire Protection ~ ~ District for a two pear term. it Upon motion of Commissioner SJilliam C. Ray, aeaonded by Commissioner Henry 5, I~alker, it was moved and adopted, that Robert Efland, George 1Jhitted and Jerry Mace, be appointed as Trustees of the Efland Rural Fire Protection District for a two year term. I4r, Edmond Stroud appeared before the Board and requested the Board of Commissioners to recommend to the State Highway Commission the paving of SR X19511. in the next years road program. vfr; John Efland ap?asared before-the Board and requested the Board of i Commissioners recommend to the State Highway Commission the paving of sR X1338 in next years road program. Chairman Bennett advised Mr, Stroud and tor, Efland the Board of Commissioners had previously ap»rnved petitions for the paving of these roads to the Eiighway ~I Commission and would incuire into the statue of these petitions, I Betty June Hayes, Register of Deeds, presented the budget request for the Register of Deeds Office for the coming fiscal year. I Commissioner Norman Walker requested the Board of Commissioners to ina~aire of Duke Power Company what plena they are making to stabilize the ground they I are cleanin,A, under their lines in the Caldwell area. I•Ir.
