At the car_clusion of the public }searing Vice Cliazrman TIicol turned the chair back to Chairman Bennett. Chairman Bennett declared the public hearing adjourned, After the adjournment .of the public hearing Chairman Bennett convened the members as a 3oard of County Commissioners. Chairman Bennet recognized ;Marion Clarrc, John dine and J. G. Flowers, representatives of the various fire district associations in the county. TF~RE IS ~=CEPTED from the above described fire district so much of the Greater Chanel I~11 Fire District as lies within the above described area.`-' Said petition had been signed by four hundred and twenty-seven (lr27) resident freeholders of the New Rope r^ire Department District. These petitioners represented more than fifteen percent (15~) of the resident freeholders of the area. J. G. Said petition had been signed by three hundred and three (303) resident freeholders of the Loo Fira Department District. These petitioners represented more than fifteen rercent (15;0) of the resident freeholders of the area. Lack petition had been signed b~* more tl^.an fifteen percent (15~) of _ the resident freeholders of the respective areas. Chairman Bennett stated I that under G,S, 69_25.1 the Soard was required to call an election on the gvestion of whether taxable fire orntection distriata would be established in the three areas. Discussion ensued. ~ Upon motion of Commissioner Henry 8, Walker, seconded by Commissioner ' Norman Walker, it was moved and adopted, that Saturday, June 3, 1972, be designated as the election day on the question of establiahinee taxable ' fire protection districts and that the Board of Commissioners inform the Board of Elections of their action on this matter. Discussion ensued relative to the water line which was being installed alnng.Highway fib South. ~, Upon motion of Commissioner Norman lJalker, seconded by Coirani.ssinner i William C. Rav, it was moved and adoated trot the proposed water line be extended approximately two hundred feet 200') further SoutY±*•rard along the road. Commissioner ?lard reported to the Board that the Joint Orange-Chatham Comrmunity Action Agency had emended all of it.s funds for this fiscal year. ~ Iie stated that the rederal grants which would have begun in February, 1972, had not been funded due to the feat that the application for the needed funds had oat been filed on lima. I?e stated that the Agency is without funds to meet s.ny of i+.s financial comrnittmenta. Chairman Bennett presented a letter from ides Fare, Prsaident of the Joint Orange-Chatham Community .Setion Agency. Said letter recited the financial plight in which. the -~genc4 foun3 itself and requested that $8,00.00, temporary financial assistance, would enable them to continue operating until the Federal funding is received. Chairman Bennett noted that a copy of this latter had also been fortaarded to the Chatham County Soard of Commissioners and that a like amount had been requested of t}.mt Board. 1 lengthly discussion ensued on thin mx~tter, Commissioner Xra A, ldar3 informed bre Hoard that the total budget of the Community Action r',gency was anproaimatel7 $300,000.CO. Sa stated that a large portion of this budget had been allocated for the operation of the Head. Start I Program and the Family Planning Programs. 3oth of these programs are directly connected *aith the County School System and the County Fealth ~. Department, l~s, ?~Iard stated that because of the total size of the .?gency~s budget it would be impossible for the County to assume the entire funding o£ these respective programs, however, he z'elt the agency did need financial assistance at this particular time. 4~~ L'pon mot?on of Cormiissioner 5uard, seconded by' Col^mi_ssioner 'lilliam C.
