Ward, it wsa moved and adopted, that the State Eighway Commission ba requested to place signs at the Efland and Eno interchanges designating the rov.te to highway 86 North. Discussion ensued relative to the naming of the road which runs in front of the General Electric plant. Commissioner Renry Walker pointed out that to turn right off of highway __ ~ 70 onto the St. Mary~a Road, when you are headed Wast, is a difficult task _ especially if another car headed South is waiting to oroas Highway 70; in that, the road is narrow and the turn is sharp. He suggested that the State Righway Commission be oontaated and requested to inveatiga:te the intersection of St. Mary~a Road and N. C. Righway 70. The Clerk was instructed to write the State Highway Commission. Chairman Sennett recognized Norman Lang, Zoning 0£ficar. Mr. Long requested that the Board set a date, time and place for a publ3a hearing on zoning matters. It was agreed th~.t the public hearing on zoning matters would ba scheduled for Thursday, October 2$, 1971, at 8 P.M. in the Courtroom of the Courthouse in Hillsborough. Tha County Accountant advised that a date should also be set for the Board to meet as a Board of Equalization and Review. It was aggreed that the Board would meet as a Board of Equalization and Review at 8 P.M. 8n Monday, September 13, 1971, in the Commissioners Room at the Courthouse in Hillsborough. Betty dune Reyes, Clerk r i i MINUPES OF THE ORANGE COUNTY BOARA OF COMMISSIONERS September 13, 1971 j The Orange County Board of Commissioners met on Monday, September 13, 1971, at 8 P.M. in ad3ournes session in the Commissivnera Room of the Courthouse 3n Hillsborough, North Carolina. Members Present: Chairman Harvey D. Bennett and Commissioners William C. Ray, Henry S. Walker, Ira A. Ward and C. Norman Walker. Members Abeent: Nona IIpon motion of Commissioner Ira A. Ward, seconded by Commissioner Henry 5. Walker, it was moved and adopted, that Dr. Alan E. Stiven be appointed as a member of the Chapel Hill Board of Ad~uatments. i Disoussion ensued relative as to the convenient time for a. meeting with the Alamanae County Board of Commissioners. It was agreed that the i Board would meat with the Alamanae County Board of Commissioners on Monday, i September 20, 1971, at 8 P.M. to discuss the eelection of a consultant who would make a study as to the need for a Juvenile detention facility. Chairman Bennett recognized Fred S. Cates, Mayor of the Town of Hillsborough, Sohn Roberts and Jank Martin, members of the Town Board of Aldermen. These Town representatives were present to disausa with the Board as to the plans for providing sewerage services to the site pf the proposed Whitaker Corporation __ plant. Chairman Sennett stated ,that the Board was not in the position to discuss the matter as the preliminary report, which was being made by John Pridger_, had not been received by the Board. s: ~l '7 Pace 392 Chairman Bennett announoed that this was the time and date for the Board to meet as a Board of Equalizat3.on and Review. Chairman Bennett requested the Tax Supervisor to submit hi.a recommendations relative to the properties owned by Town House, Inc. and by the Gerotor P4ay Corporation. P2r. Gattis recommended that there be no change made in the tax value for the year 1970. He stated that hie recommendation was based on the feat that the ahangea requested by the property owners do not fa11 within the provision of G.B. 105-2$7 which prescribes the limits which property valuations may be changed in a non re-valuation year. __ Upon motion of Cotmni,asioner William C. Ray, seconded by' Commissioner Ira A. Ward, it was moved and adopted, that the request of Town House, Ins. for the reduction of tax valuation on the property located in Chapel Hill be denied. Upon motion of Commissioner Henry S. Walker, seconded by Commissioner William C. Ray, it wsa moved and adopted, that the request of Gerotor May Carporati.on for reduction of tax valuation on their property located in Chapel Hill, be denied. Gattis, Acting Clerk MINUTES OF THE ORANGE COUiVTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS September 27, 1971 '; The Board of County Commissioners of Orange County met in ad,journad session in the Commissioners Room of the Courthouse in Hillsborough, North Carolina at S o'clock P.M. on Monday, September 27, 1971. Members Present: Chairman Harvey D, Bennett and Commissioners Henry S. walker, Ira A. Ward and C. Norman Walker. Members Absent: Covmd.saioner W111iam C. Rey. Ns. Burch Compton, Dr. Sarah Dent and Mr. Gordon Liner, Officers of the Orange County Rescue Squad, met with the Board to discuss ambulance service in Northern Orange County. They explained the Rescue Squad waa finding it almost impossible to secure enough trained volunteer help to man the daytime calla this organization moat handle. The Officers of the Squad have been dianuasing this problem for some time and now feel they must move towards acquiring some paid help to furnish thS.a service during the day. At present the Squad members can continue providing service during the night and on weekends. Since the financial burden of providing two daytime workers is mere than the Squad can assume at this time they feel it necessary to solicit financial aid for the aolutien of the problem from the County. Da.acussion ensued. Upon motion of Commissioner Ira A. Ward, seconded by Comrziasioner Remy S. walker, it was moved and adopted, that the County make available, from funds previously appropriated for Rescue Sgvad purpose a, 7,500.00. These funds are to be used by the Rescue Squad to pay a portion of the salarp of two persona *,hey propose to hire to render ambulance service during the daytime. Sheriff C, D. Anight reported he had hired five of the eight new deputies the Board of Commissioners hadapproved in the last budget. He reqquested the Board of Commissioners allew him to hire with a sixty percent (60~b) grant from the CommS.ttee on Law and Order, a radio dispatcher to serve in his office during the day.
