BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
July 8, 1971
The Board of County Commissioners of Orange County met in adjourned session
at 8:00 o~clock P, M. on Thursday, July 8, 1971, in the Commissioners Room of
the Courthouse in Hillsborough, North Carolina.
Members Present: Chairman Harvey D, Bennett, and Commissioners William C.
Raq, Henrq S. Walker, Ira A. Ward and C. Norman Walker.
Members Absent: None
This meeting was held for the purpose of discussing the 7.971-1972 budget.
The following agencies were heard:
Chanel Hi11 Librar Mrs. Richmond Bond presented a budget request fnr
the library of 1 ,7 0. The Budget far this agency last year was $12,150.
H caneechee Re Tonal Librar Mr. Lloyd Osterman presented budget, request
for th s agency of 2 ,97 The budget far this agency last gear was $19,930.
Chapel Hill-Carrboro Chamber of Commerce: Mr. Sandy McClamrock and Mr. Joe
Augustine requested that the County appropriate $1,500 to the Chamber to assist
this organization in its efforts to promote Orange County both &s a place to
locate industry and as a place to live. These gentlemen made the point that
this organization had been performing this service for many years without anq
financial assistance from governmental units of the County. This gear, they felt
that the Towns of Chapel Hill and Carrboro and Orange County each should be asked
to contribute $1,500 each to help finance the activities the agency conducts to
promote Orange County.
Social Services Director: Mr. Tom Ward reviewed the proposed welfare budget.
Ret~iater of Deeds: Miss Bettq June Hayes reviewed with the Board the
proposed budget of the Register of Deeds Office.
Sher_iff~s Department: Mr. C. D. Knight reviewed with the Board the proposed
budget of the SherifP~a Department.
There being no further buainesa to Dome before the Board the meeting was
adjourned to meet again on Monday, Jnlp 12, 1971, at 8:00 o~alock P.M. fa the
Commissioners Room of the Courthouse in Hillsborough, North Carolina.

in the Cemmisaloners Room of the Courthouse in Hillsborough at 8:00 o~clock P.M.
on Monday, July 12, 1971.
Members Present: Chairman Harvey. D. Bennett, and Commissioners William C. Ray,
Renry S. Walker, Ira A. Ward and C. Norman Walker.
Members Absent: None
This meeting was held for the purpose of reviewing the proposed 1971-1972
budget.
There being no further buainesa to come before the Board the meeting was
adjourned to meet again on Tuesday, July 13, 1971, at 8:00 o~clock P. M. in the
Courtroom of the Courthouse in Hillsborough, North Carolina for a joint public
hearing with members of the Covnty Planning Board.
