BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
July B, 1971
The Board of County Commissioners of Orange County met in adjourned session
at 8:00 o'clock P. M. on Thursday, Julq 8, 1971, in the Commissioners Room of
the Courthouse in Hillsborough, North Carolina,
Members Present: Chairman Harvey D, Bennett, and Commissioners William C,
Ray, Henry S, Walker, Ira A. Ward and C. Norman Walker.
Members Absent: None
This meeting wee held for the purpose of discussing the 1971-1972 budget,
The following agencies were heard:
Chapel H111 Librar ; Mrs, Richmond Bond presented a budget request for
the 1i rary of 1 ,7 0. The Budget for this agenaq last year was $12,150.
H coneechee Re Tonal Librar Mr. Lloyd Osterman presented budget,request
for this agency of 2 ,97 The budget for this agency last year was $19,930.
Chapel Hill-Carrboro_Chamber of Commerce: Mr, Sandq HaClamrock and Mr. Joe
Augustine requested that the Cvun~q appropriate $1,500 to the Chamber to assist
this organization in its ePPorts to promote Orange County both as a place to
locate industry and as a plaoe to line. These gentlemen made the point that
this organization had been performing this service for many years without any
financial assistance from governmental unite of the County. This year, they felt
that the Towns of Chapel Hill and Carrboro and Orange County each aheuld be asked
to contribute $1,500 each to help finance the activities the agency conduata to
promote Orange County.
Social Services Director: Mr, Tom Ward reviewed the proposed welfare budget.
Re inter of Deeds: Mina Bettq June Hayes reviewed with the Board the
propose udget of the Register of Aeeds Office.
Sheriff~a De artmant: Mr. C. D, Knight reviewed with the Board the proposed
budget of the Sheriffs Department.
There being no further business to some before the Board the meeting was
adjourned to meet again on Monday, July 12, 1971, at 8:00 o~clock P,M, is the
Coirmiiasioners Roam of the Courthouse in Hillsborough, North Carolina.

This meeting was held Por the purpose of reviewing the proposed 1971-1972
budget. _
There being no further business to come before the Board the meeting was
adjourned to meet again on Tuesday, July 13, 1971, at 8:00 o'clock P,M, in the
Courtroom of the Courthouse in Hillsborough, North Carolina Por a joint public
hearing with members of the County Planning Board.
